Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute - Classical and Jazz
Music Lessons in Stony Brook, Queens, or your Home!
I am happy to help students prepare for NYSSMA! Let's start early!
I teach private music lessons to all ages and abilities in Stony Brook/East Setauket, NY, at a studio in Great Neck, or at your home. I teach clarinet, saxophone, and flute and perform regularly on all three instruments (see about).
A lesson length of 45 minutes weekly tends to work very well for many. Less experienced students may prefer 30 minutes, and more advanced (high school or college) students may benefit from a full hour. If you're unsure, start with 45 minutes. In my opinion, a half hour is usually too short but the full hour can be exhausting for many students (and difficult to focus for that long). We can always change your lesson duration later as you progress.
Please contact me for my rates and I will get back to you generally the same day. If you prefer, it is possible for me to travel to your home for lessons for a fee as well. Please mention you prefer this if that is the case. See the contact section.
Lessons will focus on fundamentals in sound production to get the most beautiful, full tone possible. We will also work on developing technique including scales and arpeggios. From there, students have the option of guiding lessons with their choice of music. I will help you find music that you will enjoy, but will also challenge you. If you like contemporary, jazz, pop, or commercial music we can work on those styles as well, including jazz improvisation. More advanced clarinet and flute students may also work on orchestral excerpts, depending on their goals. I want you to enjoy the music you are working on!
To get the most enjoyment out of music, a certain level of commitment and personal discipline (practicing!) is necessary. A great benefit of pursuing music lessons is the opportunity it gives us to notice and eventually improve our work ethic in general. Some of my students have been awarded exemplary soloist awards at solo and ensemble and some have gone on to major in music at a university, but I hope that all of them will at the very least appreciate and enjoy music for the rest of their lives. The biggest reason people come to me for lessons is that their school band can't give them the individual instruction and help that they need. This is why I always encourage my students to ask me questions anytime and many of them email me questions every week. I love teaching all ages and abilities.
Please see the contact section to find a lesson time that will work for us and discuss details. You may also email me at email@example.com or call 920.883.8627 anytime with any questions or to set up a lesson.
Please check out the music section to hear me play, or the about section to read about my achievements in music.
In March, April and May, Rico Reeds will choose a "student of the month."
All of my interested clarinet and saxophone students ages 13-19 should consider entering!
If you put in the hard work, I will make a high quality recording for you to submit! :)
